When we get nervous, we make excuses. We make excuses not to love or take care of ourselves. Sometimes life is just….A lot. We’re too busy at work or always have to drive someone SOMEWHERE. Sometimes it’s more important to spend time with our loved ones. We also use excuses like “I want to love 15lbs first!” or “I just don’t have the money right now!”. I wanted to write this to show you all that no matter the excuse, you CAN do it! Let me show you that no matter the excuse, you are worthy of a boudoir experience!
“I don’t have enough time for myself”
It’s important to remember that if you aren’t taking care of yourself in some way, then you’re not going to be able to handle taking care of everyone else. You can’t fill other cups from an empty one, right? Which makes sense, but of course it’s much harder said than done! Sometimes, I am the WORST at making sure I’m giving myself mental health breaks, and that’s why I think it’s so important to share this with you all. I make the same excuses as above and sometimes I need someone to look me in the eye and say, “SLOW DOWN! Give yourself a break. Breathe for a minute!”
During a boudoir session, you are able to breathe, and focus solely on yourself for a few hours. You get to see where your beauty really comes from, which lifts such a huge mental weight. Think of all the energy you’ll save on a daily basis if you could stop comparing yourself to others, or stop worrying about what other people will think of how you look. Sounds like some major self-care to me.
You need to take time for yourself, so why not spend it having an amazing time and getting glammed up for once?!
“I’m not where I want to be weight-wise/I don’t fit the media’s current beauty ideals”
Honestly, who even does, though? Is it just me, or does the body ideal change every 5-10 years? But who’s even responsible for deciding what the beauty ideals are? AND WHY ARE WE LETTING THIS HAPPEN!?
The percentage of women that fit the industry’s current standards at any given time must be incredibly low, because it’s always changing and it’s pretty much always unattainable, too. The readily-available photo filters and editing these days are insane, and it’s honestly hard not to feel like everyone is a catfish.
That being said, I HAVE noticed much more representation of different beauty types in magazines and ads, Victoria’s Secret included. To me, that means that everyday people like us are finally getting the recognition we deserve despite the ongoing unattainable beauty trends on social media sites like TikTok. And it shouldn’t be exclusive to ads, commercials, or magazines, either. This is the perfect time to continue to rise as the tidal wave of badassery and magic that we can create, and start treating ourselves as such. You are incredible, just as you are.
And your weight? The shape of your body? The stage of your transition? They’re all cause to celebrate. We have clients who book before and after shoots so they can celebrate their bodies before they meet their goals, whether it be weight loss or reconstruction after cancer treatment, and then again after. But what if you don’t meet your physical goals….? Well, good. Then you have evidence of how amazing you already are.
Did you know that the body type portrayed in advertising as the ideal is possessed by only 5% of American females? ONLY FIVE PERCENT!!
I will say this over and over again (and sorry-not-sorry if you’ve heard me say it before!), , but WHY do you have to be a certain size to LOVE yourself?! WHY do you have to fit a stranger’s messed up idea of a perfect body to LOVE your own? WHY are you comparing your size to everyone else when no two women are the same?!
I think it’s amazing to have goals and want to get healthy, but does that mean you have to hate your body to do those things? Absolutely NOT! You should love yourself every step of the way. Be proud of where you are so that you can be proud of where you’re going. Have a boudoir shoot to celebrate where you are now, and then have one when you lose that 15lbs to celebrate how far you’ve come!
“I never feel sexy or sensual anymore, so a boudoir shoot must not be for me”
WRONG.
This excuse is actually the EXACT reason you SHOULD do a boudoir shoot!
Often times we lose touch with our femininity or sexuality when life gets cray because of health, kids, or work. It happens a lot and it’s absolutely normal and OKAY! A great way to find this side of ourselves again is to have a boudoir shoot done to spark that fuse in us again! I can show you that you have it inside you somewhere, and it might even ignite a spark between you and your significant other, too!
Another thing to remember is that you don’t HAVE to wear super sexy clothing or lingerie. If you feel like that doesn’t show your personality, then there are SO many other options! If you need ideas, I will gladly talk to you about them!
“A boudoir shoot is an investment and I don’t have all the money right now.”
Yes, a boudoir shoot IS an investment. But not just monetarily. It’s a true investment in YOURSELF! You are investing in your well-being and confidence as well. We do offer Payment Plans. In order to book your session, there is a booking retainer, and after that we can set up your payment plan for the remaining balance so that it will be easier to manage. If you have any questions about our payment plans, email me at honeysuckleboudoir@gmail.com.
